Identity Crisis

I promise, this is the last time. The Handpainted Sheep is changing names again. I am sorry for all the confusion, but hopefully once this is all taken care of everyone will be happy and we can focus on the yarn (cause really, thats what its all about). So, The Handpainted Sheep is now The Unique Sheep. While the old site still works, for now, the new web address is www.theuniquesheep.com. And the new blog is www.theuniquesheep.blogspot.com

Stop by and say hello and let me know that I haven't lost all my customers with all this switching!

Sample Knitters Needed

I need plain, stockinette or ribbed socks knit out of several of my colorways. Anyone up for it? You'll get a skein of your choice (other than the lace) in return. This time I need a pair, not just a single sock.

email me at laura@theuniquesheep.com to sign up

Holiday Photo Contest

Its hard to believe that its already time to start thinking about the holidays, but they will be here before you know it! So that means its time to submit your holiday photos for a special collection of holiday inspired yarns. Since you have already had a chance to submit your fall photos, which could include Thanksgiving and Halloween, lets focus on the winter holidays like Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Solstice, etc. Save your wintery (non-holiday) photos for later, please.

As always, email your photos to me at info@paintedsheepyarn.com. If your photo is chosen to become a colorway you will win a skein of your choice of yarn in your color!

I can't wait to see what you've got!

Introducing...The Spirit Collection!

The Spirit Collection is a new, customizable line of yarns based on school/team colors. Because there are so many different team and school colors out there, I am not making up samples of each one. Instead, you can order any yarn you want and simply tell me the colors, or better yet send me a link to the team or school's website so I can see them for myself. Any team, school, or other group is allowed.

Anyone recognize this one?

Introducing...Aurora Lace!

Aurora is a lace weight yarn in 100% Superwash Merino Lamb's Wool. And it is sooo soft. I had heard complaints about regular, non-superwash, wool lace yarn becoming felted and messy after being worn, but this superwash yarn should hold up better.

Aurora gets its name from the Roman goddess of the dawn. Lace knitting makes me think of air and light, both things that this goddess stands for. Aurora is the Roman equivalent to Eos, the Greek goddess of dawn, which just happens to be the name for my other lace yarn, a silk/merino blend.

Like Eos, Aurora comes in a large enough skein to make a full stole-- 1324yds!

I dyed the first skeins of Aurora today. Once it is dry I'll reskein it and take photos to post.

Introducing...Simply Socks

Simply Socks is a 100% Superwash Merino sock yarn that is a true fingering weight (unlike Foot Prints, which is a heavy fingering/sport weight). I've had many customers request a thinner sock yarn than Foot Prints, and here it is. It's got a great twist but is still very soft and comes in 100g/ skeins. Being Superwash wool it dyes up beautifully with deep, vibrant colors.

Introducing....Singularity

Singularity is a single ply yarn with the texture of hand spun yarn. It is available as 100% wool (Singularity in Wool)or in a 60/40 blend of wool and silk (Singularity in Silk).

The silk blend is unbelievably soft and, well, silky. You really have to touch it to understand. Not close to one of the yarn shops that carries my yarn? Ask your local yarn shop to start carrying Handpainted Sheep yarn, or order a mini-skein (and mini-sweater pattern) to sample it yourself.

Singularity in Wool is a worsted weight yarn and Singularity in Silk is more of a DK or light worsted. Both come in 50g / 105 yard skeins.
